Oh my god- what a awesome trip :)!! After a great farewell in cairns we finally flew to Darwin. not to mention, all three of us brought (more than) 30 kilos onto the plain successfully, without paying extra money *lol. The first day we went a bit through Darwin; to be honest: not really one of my favourite cities. There is not much you can do... the day after, we picked up our van: MANUEL, NO POWERSTEERING!!! Okay, this might be a fun :-D because: maike didn’t have so much experience with driving (especially driving on the left side), elysha never drove a manuel car before and me, who will drive illegally (and even if I had to drive legally we’d have pay more because I’m under 21). Well, so far so good…ah, I forgot- The van is made for girls like us. On the sides of our van there are phrases: “men have feelings too but who really cares…”, “If a man tells a woman she is beautiful than she is willing to overlook his other lies…”, “If you are going to do something wrong you might as well enjoy it…” LOVE IT *lol*. Our first aim was Litchfield national park. So beautiful but so damn hot! We met some other guys (we met them again in coral bay) and camped with them at a campsite. It was a lovely, funny night…but then the question ‘who sleeps where?’. Mhmm, okay. I know me: I can’t sleep if it’s to narrow, uncomfortable and too hot. Therefore, I decided to sleep in the front of the van, where the passenger-and driverseat are. Said, done! (no worries, I put a matrass on the seats. Actually, I am becoming more accostumed to it.) the other both slept in the back in the van. Okay, to be honest, I was a bit “jealous” :D. the next morning, I woke up so f***ing early, we had a huge breakfast at least. Afterwards, all three of us were glad to had a shower.. so went to an amazing spot, called “buleys rockholes” and swom in there. We had an awesome natural shower, body wash and toothbrushing (the whole program) *lol*. I felt MUCH better after that. When we came back to our bushcamp, one of the other car’s had a snake (and what a huge one!) under the bonnet. They tried to get rid of it but without any success. Then, they drove off with the snake still “in” the engine. No worries. We kept going to some waterfalls and stuff. (I don’t write everything we saw or experienced, that would take to much time.) next, on a quiet car park, elysha gave her first drive a go… to our all pleasure! I laughed the whole time. Maike and I taught her when and how to use the clutch and which gear she has to use and all that stuff. (well, I admit: we were probably not the best teachers :D) this time, I remembered my first driving school lesson. But she has done really well!! Did I already mentioned these really shitty damn fucking flies??? So ENNOYABLE! Fortunately not biting like the mosquitoes. The next day we drove to an awesome isolated lake, nobody except us! We went for a pleasant swim (the water here is still to warm for me- but this is nothing new; I felt the same about every shower we took till now). It was so quiet, we showered and washed (the whole hygienic program again) without our swimming suits. I felt like in a movie :D.
We got groceries the same day to establish later the evening that we will reach the border to Western Australia the next day…shit! Because WA is under quarantaine: You are not permitted to bring fresh food. Damn, so we cooked all our fresh veggies the evening and storaged them. With the fruits we made a fruitsalade the following morning. On the way, we put slices of lemon in all our water bottles…and gave the same tip to other backpackers. HAHA, at the border they told us we have to take the lemon slices out or to throw the bottles away.. hey, we are backpackers and we won’t throw anything useful out! Therefore, we took our time to fish all the lemon pieces out of all our bottles. Then in western Australia, the police stopped us and elysha had to blow for them(in another expression: she had to take the breathalizertest). So funny because after, she tried t start the van but killed the engine twice.. a short explanations that she is still learning to drive manuel and without powersteering. We spend a few hours at “the grotto” – a very nice place for a swim but unfortunately we couldn’t see the waterfall. Eitherway it was still a very lovely spot! The 10th we finally arrived in broome. And my first successful try to get internet and phone access *yeah*. In the evening we drove with our van at the “cable beach” and watched the most amazing sunset I have ever seen!!! Really beautiful!! We spend the next day at cable beach, just relaxing and chilling. Felt good after one week only drivng driving driving… and by the way, the seats we are sitting on are getting so fucking hot because they are directly over top of the engine! Especially the “unpopular” and uncomfortable middle seat!!
